Our Story
Rob Whyte spent more than a decade as COO of Renteria Vineyard Management — one of Napa Valley's most respected farming operations. He managed thousands of acres, negotiated countless grape deals, and became the person both growers and buyers called when they needed to find each other. Every harvest season, the same pattern repeated: good fruit with no home, qualified buyers with no leads, and a market that still runs on phone calls and personal networks.
The California wine grape market is one of the most valuable agricultural sectors in the country. In Rob's experience, a significant share of it moves through the open market via word of mouth, brokers, and personal favors. There is no transparency, no benchmarks, and no infrastructure connecting available fruit to the people who need it.
“Every season, growers come to us with good fruit and no buyer. We've spent over a decade being the person both sides of this problem keep coming to — and we got tired of not having a better answer.”
Grapora is the answer. The name combines grape and agora— the ancient Greek word for a public marketplace and gathering place. It's an intelligent marketplace for wine grape commerce: a place where the people who grow and buy wine grapes can finally find each other on their own terms.
Today, Grapora offers free pricing intelligence — CDFA Crush Report data made searchable by AVA, varietal, and vintage, with historical trend analysis going back to 2003. Growers and buyers can see what their fruit is worth before they negotiate, with real data instead of guesswork.
Beyond pricing, we're building the marketplace the industry has never had: rich grower listings, buyer discovery tools, grower and buyer dashboards, and standardized contracts — all in active development, with early access available now.
“Grapora is more than a marketplace. It's a gathering place — an agora at the center of a community that has never had one.”
We're launching California first — and building for every wine growing region in the world.
